Aggreko wins the Eurovision Song Contest
Aggreko successfully provided the Eurovision Song Contest with
over 9 MW for the three day event (25, 27 and 29 May 2010).
Previously, the annual competition, which this year took place at
Oslo’s Telenor Arena, relied on a number of different contractors
and this was the first time the organisers relied on a single
provider for its power and temperature control needs…
Four Aggreko 1250 kVA generators produced power for lighting,
video and rigging. Aggreko provided an additional 4 MW for outside
broadcast crews, press conference facilities, media, catering,
sound, cameras, pyrotechnics and management offices. A further 1 MW
was used to power the air conditioning, to cool the massive main
stage lighting rig, as well as the backstage area.
To counter the heat generated by
the lighting rig and ensure the performance of the stunning
display, Aggreko installed a system using four 200 kW air handlers,
ducted out to the roof. This is the first time such a system has
been used to reduce the operating temperature of such a rig.
David Taylor, Aggreko Event
Services General Manager, said: "This event poses an impressive
challenge to technicians, event organisers and engineers. We
deployed over 33 kilometres of cabling throughout the venue to
deliver our combined power and temperature control solution.
"Our team of 14 worked with complete dedication during the
two-week build-up period and the four weeks of rehearsals to help
deliver a stunning final show at the end of May. This was the
largest television event in Norway since the Winter Olympics at
Lillehammer in 1994 and we are proud to have played our part in the
ongoing success story of the Eurovision Song Contest." The live
final on 29th May was watched by an estimated global
audience of 120 million viewers.
